Kavallaris is a historic settlement in the Regional Unit of Drama, which no longer exists as an officially recognized village. Its earlier name was Bresantli until 1927, when it was renamed. The toponym Bresantli (or Bresantlı) is of Turkish origin, possibly derived from Bre(or Bres) + the suffix -li / -lı, meaning “place related to…” or “people from…”. Thus, Bresantli could be interpreted as “the place of the Bresantli people” or “the people from Bresan(i).” The settlement lay 32 km northeast of the town of Drama, on the slopes of the Lekani Mountains, at an elevation of about 450 meters. Historical evolution 1953 – Kavallaris was detached from the community of Platania and recognized as a separate settlement (Government Gazette 246A/08-09-1953), 1956 – It was abolished as an administrative entity(Government Gazette 125A/21-05-1956), 1982 – It was re-recognized and annexed to the community of Ptelea (Government Gazette 21B/20-01-1982). Today, Kavallaris no longer has official administrative status, nor does it appear in population censuses. The name survives only as a toponym or a small cluster of rural dwellings(farmhouses, old residences) near Ptelea or Platania. It has no permanent population.
