The Cinquantenaire Park (or Jubelpark) is one of the most important and historic parks in Brussels, with a rich history tied to the city’s cultural heritage and development. It was created at the initiative of King Leopold II, who wanted to honor the 50th anniversary of Belgium’s founding by creating a large exhibition space inspired by the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. Although the original idea focused on showcasing progress and culture, the park evolved into a multifaceted space combining cultural, historical, and recreational elements. The Cinquantenaire Arch, the most iconic feature of the park, is a monument built to mark the grandeur of the exhibition and Belgium’s heritage, while the surrounding museums, such as the Royal Museum of Armed Forces and Military History and the Royal Museum of Art and History, continue to attract visitors from all over the world. The park also hosts Autoworld, the vintage car museum, as well as significant monuments like the Monument to Belgian Pioneers in Congo and the Temple of Human Passions. Today, the park is one of the most beloved spaces for the city’s residents, offering opportunities for leisure, sports, and cultural activities, while visitors enjoy a peaceful walk or participate in festivals and events.
