Μισή ώρα βόρεια του Μιλάνου, στην λίμνη Κόμο, Lago di Como βρίσκεται το Βellagio (χτισμένο από το 1535), γνωστό και ως la perla del lago (το μαργαριτάρι της λίμνης). Αν και η πιο διάσημη πόλη της λίμνης είναι η πόλη Como, το Bellagio είναι από τους κορυφαίους ρομαντικούς προορισμούς. Από τα τέλη του 19ου άι. άρχισαν να χτίζονται τα πρώτα πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία και έκτοτε έγινε σημείο αναφοράς. Βρίσκεται σε ένα απότομο ακρωτήρι, εκεί που ενώνονται οι δύο βραχίονες της λίμνης. Η ονομασία της προέρχεται από το λατινικό bi-lacus που σημαίνει ανάμεσα στις λίμνες. Εκπληκτικός ο αμφιθεατρικός οικισμός με την μικρή προκυμαία, τα σκεπαστά πεζοδρόμια, τα πολλά καφέ και τα μαγαζάκια με τα τουριστικά είδη. Στενά πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια ανάμεσα σε κτήρια με αποχρώσεις του κίτρινου, του πορτοκαλί και του κόκκινου σε εντυπωσιάζουν. Οι κήποι της Villa Melzi του 18ου άι. καθώς και της Villa Serbelloni του 15ου αι. είναι ασύγκριτης ομορφιάς. Λέγεται ότι η Serbelloni είναι χτισμένη πάνω από την αρχαία έπαυλη του Πλίνιου του Νεότερου (61-113, ρωμαίος ρήτορας), που ονομάζονταν "Τραγωδία". Στην πλατεία του οικισμού βρίσκεται η εκκλησία του St.Giacomo (11ου-12ου άι.) με ενδιαφέροντα έργα τέχνης και με το συντριβάνι αφιερωμένο στην Παναγία. Αξίζει να περπατήσετε τον οικισμό σε όλο το μήκος δίπλα στην λίμνη, μια όμορφη εμπειρία για την απόλαυση του φυσικού τοπίου. Αλλά ακόμα πιο όμορφη η επίσκεψη στους κήπους, με το πλήθος φυτών και δέντρων, με την υπέροχη θέα προς την λίμνη.

Just half an hour north of Milan, on the shores of Lake Como (Lago di Como), lies the enchanting town of Bellagio, founded in 1535 and often referred to as la perla del lago the pearl of the lake. While the city of Como may be the most well-known destination on the lake, Bellagio stands out as one of the most romantic spots in the region. Built on a steep promontory where the two arms of the Y-shaped lake meet, Bellagio offers stunning panoramic views. Its name is believed to derive from the Latin bi-lacus, meaning “between the lakes.” Since the late 19th century, the town has become a renowned destination, with luxurious hotels starting to appear and establishing Bellagio as a key reference point for elite tourism. The town unfolds amphitheatrically, featuring a charming promenade, arched walkways, cozy cafés, and quaint souvenir shops. Narrow cobbled streets wind through buildings painted in warm hues of yellow, orange, and red, creating a picturesque setting that leaves a lasting impression. Among its highlights are the spectacular gardens of Villa Melzi (18th century) and Villa Serbelloni (15th century), both renowned for their unmatched beauty. Legend has it that Villa Serbelloni is built atop the ruins of an ancient Roman villa once belonging to the orator Pliny the Younger (61–113 AD), which he poetically named Tragedy. In the central square of the town stands the Church of St. Giacomo, dating from the 11th–12th century, home to notable artworks and a charming fountain dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A walk along the lakefront is highly recommended, offering a peaceful and scenic experience, while a visit to the gardens is simply unforgettable full of exotic plants and trees, with magnificent views of the lake. Bellagio is more than a destination it's a harmonious blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and timeless elegance.
