Δυτικά της Αυστρίας στην πολιτεία Vorarlberg βρίσκεται το Feldkirch, η δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη πόλη της περιοχής κοντά στα σύνορα του Λιχτενστάιν και της Ελβετίας με 35.000χιλ. περίπου κατοίκους. Αυτή η καλά διατηρημένη μεσαιωνική  πόλη είναι χτισμένη στους πρόποδες του Schattenburg,σε υψόμετρο 458μ. δίπλα στο ποταμό Ιλλ χρονολογείται από τις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα, όπου και ήταν η έδρα των Δουκών του Montforts, στο επιβλητικό κάστρο Schattenburg, που δεσπόζει πάνω από την πόλη. Το οποίο παρότι έχει υποστεί μια σειρά επεκτάσεων έχει μείνει σχεδόν αμετάβλητο. Από  εδώ ψηλά η θέα της πόλης είναι υπέροχη, πλέον στο κάστρο στεγάζεται το τοπικό μουσείο καθώς και ένα καφέ-εστιατόριο. Στο Feldkirch που έχει καταφέρει να διατηρήσει τον μεσαιωνικό του χαρακτήρα, υπάρχουν πολλά ιστορικά αξιοθέατα. Η γοτθική ενοριακή εκκλησία του Αγίου Νικολάου (Dom sankt Nikolaus, 1478). Η εκκλησία του Αγίου Ιωάννη (Johanniterkirche 1218), εδώ λειτούργησε το γνωστό σχολείο των Ιησουϊτών, από τα μέσα του 17ου αιώνα Stella Matutina. Από την πόλη που υπήρξε ως μια οχυρωμένη πόλη με πύλες, τείχη και πύργους, λίγα σημεία σώζονται σήμερα, όπως ο πιο γνωστός καλοδιατηρημένος πύργος Katzenturm(1491-1507), με το ασυνήθιστο όνομα "πύργος της γάτας", χωρίς να υπάρχει ακριβής εξήγηση για αυτό. Εδώ βρίσκεται η μεγαλύτερη καμπάνα του Vorarlberg και η 6η μεγαλύτερη σε όλη την Αυστρία, που χτυπά κάθε Παρασκευής στις 3μμ. Η πλατεία Marktplatz καθώς και η ομώνυμη οδός, με τα όμορφα παλιά κτήρια είναι το σημείο συνάντησης για  αγορές ή για καφέ καθώς εδώ είναι, από την ίδρυση της, η αγορά της πόλης. Επίσης εδώ διεξάγονται όλες οι πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις που γίνονται κάθε χρόνο. Η παλιά πόλη είναι ένα μέρος μαγευτικό για να το επισκεφθεί κάποιος, τα πλακόστρωτα δρομάκια και οι όμορφες προσόψεις των κτιρίων κάνουν το σκηνικό τέλειο σε συνδυασμό με την σύγχρονη πόλη. Είναι μια ορεινή πολιτεία που περιβάλλεται από ψηλούς βράχους και καταπράσινα αλπικά δάση. Η επίσκεψη όποια εποχή και να γίνει καλύπτει και τους πιο απαιτητικούς. Η πόλη συνδυάζει την ιστορία την φύση αλλά και την σύγχρονη ζωή.

To the west of Austria, in the state of Vorarlberg, lies Feldkirch, the second-largest city in the region near the borders of Liechtenstein and Switzerland, with approximately 35,000 inhabitants. This well-preserved medieval town is built at the foot of the Schattenburg Castle, at an elevation of 458 meters, alongside the Ill River. The town dates back to the early 13th century, when it was the seat of the Dukes of Montfort, located in the imposing Schattenburg Castle that overlooks the town. Despite a series of extensions, the castle has remained almost unchanged. From here, the view of the town is magnificent. Today, the castle houses a local museum and a café-restaurant. Feldkirch has managed to preserve its medieval character and boasts many historical attractions. These include the Gothic Parish Church of St. Nicholas (Dom Sankt Nikolaus, 1478) and the Church of St. John (Johanniterkirche, 1218), which hosted the well-known Jesuit school, Stella Matutina, from the mid-17th century. As a fortified town with gates, walls, and towers, only a few remnants remain today, such as the best-preserved Katzenturm tower (1491-1507), with the unusual name "Cat Tower," though the exact reason for the name is unclear. Here also stands the largest bell in Vorarlberg and the sixth largest in all of Austria, which rings every Friday at 3 pm. The Marktplatz square and the street of the same name, with its beautiful old buildings, is a meeting point for shopping or coffee, as it has been the market square since the town's founding. All the cultural events that take place throughout the year are also held here. The old town is a magical place to visit, with its cobblestone streets and beautiful facades creating a perfect setting combined with the modern city. Surrounded by high cliffs and lush alpine forests, the town offers something for every visitor. Whether visited in summer or winter, Feldkirch is a place where history, nature, and modern life converge, offering a unique and rewarding experience.
