Κιόνι, Ιθάκη (Kioni, Ithaca).

Το Κιόνι της Ιθάκης, που η παλαιότερη ονομασία ήταν Κιόνιον, θεωρείται από πολλούς το ομορφότερο χωριό του νησιού. Απέχει από το Βαθύ την πρωτεύουσα του νησιού 24 χιλιόμετρα με πολύ εύκολη οδική πρόσβαση. Είναι χτισμένο αμφιθεατρικά, ξεκινάει από ψηλά και κατηφορίζει προς την θάλασσα. Χτίστηκε τον 16ο αιώνα, από τους κατοίκους των γύρω ορεινών περιοχών, όταν δημιουργήθηκε η ανάγκη για πρόσβαση στη θάλασσα. Ο οικισμός έχει χαρακτηριστεί διατηρητέος χάρη στις καλοδιατηρημένες κατοικίες, που η αρχιτεκτονική τους είναι επηρεασμένη από τους Ενετούς αλλά και τους Άγγλους που πέρασαν από το νησί. Βέβαια το 1953 πολλά σπίτια στο Κιόνι, όπως και σε όλο το νησί καταστραφήκαν με τον μεγάλο σεισμό. Λιγοστοί οι μόνιμοι κάτοικοι τον χειμώνα, αλλά το καλοκαίρι πλημμυρίζει από τουρίστες (Ιταλοί, Άγγλοι αλλά και Έλληνες) καθώς στο γραφικό λιμανάκι αράζουν μικρά και μεγάλα σκάφη. Τα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά, ιδανικά για τις καλοκαιρινές βουτιές κάνει τους επισκέπτες να το προτιμούν. Στο λιμανάκι του χωριού οι ταβέρνες αποτελούν πόλο έλξης για το καλό φαγητό τους. Οι βόλτες στα στενά δρομάκια με τα περιποιημένα σπίτια, μαγεύουν όλους όσους επιλέξουν να το επισκεφτούν.

Kioni, Ithaca, Greece, once known as Kionion, is considered by many to be the most beautiful village on the island. It is located 24 kilometers from Vathy, the island's capital, with very easy road access. The village is built amphitheatrically, starting from higher ground and descending toward the sea. It was established in the 16th century by the inhabitants of the surrounding mountainous areas when there was a need for access to the sea. The settlement is protected due to its well-preserved houses, whose architecture is influenced by both the Venetians and the British who once occupied the island. However, in 1953, many houses in Kioni, like the rest of the island, were destroyed in the great earthquake. The number of permanent residents is small during the winter, but in the summer, the village is flooded with tourists (Italians, Brits, and Greeks), as small and large boats anchor at the picturesque harbor. The crystal-clear waters, perfect for summer swims, make it a favorite destination for visitors. The tavernas in the village's harbor are a popular attraction for their excellent food. Strolling through the narrow streets with well-maintained houses enchants everyone who chooses to visit.
