Kallifytos is a beautiful semi-mountainous village at an altitude of 220 m, with a population of 1,083 residents, located just 7 km from the city of Drama. Until 1928 it was called Ravika(a Slavic toponym, probably derived from the root rava = flat, smooth place, plain, with the diminutive suffix -ica / -itsa / -ika, meaning “small,” thus Ravika may literally mean “small plain”). From that year onwards, it was officially renamed to Kallifytos. The village combines the serenity of nature with the warmth of a lively community, rich in refugee heritage, cultural activity, and religious monuments. A landmark is the church of Zoodochos Pigi(Life-Giving Spring), along with a cave-chapel where holy water flows, just outside the village, which serves as a pilgrimage site. Visitors can enjoy pleasant activities such as hiking through the natural landscape, mountain biking (the village hosts the Kallifytos Trail Park, a network of trails ideal for outdoor adventures), karting, and cultural events at the Cultural Center “Aimilios Theocharis Kalaitzidis”, which organizes theater, concerts, a library, and music evenings. Traditional cafés, local products, and lively customs are preserved with love and authenticity. Kallifytos successfully blends its traditional character with modern leisure options, supported by a welcoming community and active cultural life. Although small in population and area, the village has a distinctive charm, balancing history, religious tradition, and the renewal brought by new activities. Architecturally and geographically, it is a picturesque settlement with a genuine local identity. The variety of cultural and sports activities makes Kallifytos an attractive destination for visitors of all ages. It invites you to experience simplicity, serenity, and genuine Greek hospitality.

Just outside the village of Kallifytos, near the city of Drama, lies the Holy Chapel of the Life-Giving Spring (Zoodochos Pigi). It is a small yet spiritually significant site, built next to a natural spring that is considered sacred by the local residents. A unique feature of the chapel is that it is carved into the rock, forming a small cave from which the holy water flows. The water is believed to have healing properties, and many faithful visit the site to pray and collect the holy spring water. The area exudes a sense of peace, faith, and deep respect for tradition, attracting both pilgrims and nature lovers. The surrounding landscape is lush and tranquil, offering a unique experience of spiritual reflection in nature. Every year, on the Friday following Easter (the Feast of Zoodochos Pigi), a religious service and local celebration take place, honoring the day with devotion and community participation.
